Pinnacle Construction breaks ground on Highlands at Huckleberry Ridge

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Pinnacle Construction and Development Corporation, with headquarters in Charlottesville, has begun construction of Highlands at Huckleberry Ridge on a 63 acre site on the north side of Merrimac Road in Montgomery County, in close proximity to the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center and LewisGale Hospital Montgomery.
Highlands at Huckleberry Ridge will be constructed in three phases and will include 388 market rate apartment units and 40 lots for single/two-family residential homes. The apartments include 1, 2 & 3 bedroom luxuriously appointed loft units with garages. Proposed rents range from $875 to $1205. On-site amenities include a community center featuring a leasing office, club room, parlor, business office, game room, exercise facility, swimming pool, outdoor fireplace, and playground. In addition to sidewalks within the development, pedestrian paths connecting to the Huckleberry Trail are also planned for the site.
Rezoning for the planned development was approved by Montgomery County in 2011, and the plan is consistent with the Urban Expansion Area land use policy goals to provide a range of high quality residential units in a pedestrian-friendly community while minimizing impacts on natural features of the land. Over 20% of the site will be maintained as open space, and much of the land and existing vegetation along Hightop Road, Slate Branch, and the Huckleberry Trail will remain in its current state as a buffer. Upgrades to the Huckleberry Trail road crossings have been proffered and will enhance the safety and usability of the trail.
The construction completion date for Phase 1 (248 apartment units) is anticipated to be March 2015. Support for the project has included executives at the LewisGale Hospital, Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center, and Friends of the Huckleberry.
