Small Business Innovation Research Program set to begin Road Tour
Montgomery County, Virginia – The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program is set to begin its road tour focused on technology-based entrepreneurship, which will allow attendees to have a face-to-face opportunity to talk directly to federal agency program managers and decision makers from many agencies.
The SBIR is a highly competitive, non-dilute funding source by the United States government, which is coordinated by the Small Business Association. The goal of the SBIR is to encourage domestic small businesses to engage in high-growth research and development. Funding for this program comes in contracts or grants, and winners of the funding must have the potential for commercialization.
The SBIR Road Tour is designed as a national-level outreach effort to show the opportunities available for non-dilutive technology funding through the SBIR program. Annually, the SBIR and Small Business Technology Transfer programs provide $2.5 billion in funding to small advanced technology firms in order to spur new technological discovers and facilitate commercialization.
This road tour is set to do a South East Tour, a West Central Tour, and a Mid-West Tour, as well as, holding a few standalone events. Four conferences are also being held as part of this effort, with Washington, D.C., the closest event for Virginia, being held on May 23, 2016. Again, the goal of the road tour is to support technology-based entrepreneurship and give attendees the chance to interact with federal administrators.
